Do you have favorite numbers? Or which number do you hate? I guess “7” may be the most popular number in Japan because most people around me like lucky seven. The room number of the apartment I lived has no “4” and “9”. Mr. Sasaki, my lab-mate, told me that “4” has the similar pronunciation to “死”-dead and “9” has the similar pronunciation to “苦しい”- suffering. Exactly, the favorite number in china is the number “8”. It presents wealth due to its pronunciation in Chinese. Unfortunately, “4” is also unpopular because its pronunciation is similar to “死”. The number “13” is considered to be an unlucky number in some countries.

The above description is a common phenomenon while people never remain the same. “I like number 13”, Mr. Akazawa, my lab-mate, said. Accordingly, the favorite numbers are decided by tradition, culture or personal preference.
